In 1934 Pathéscope introduced 17.5mm sound, a year after it's launch in France.
By late 1939 Pathéscope had abandoned the gauge, probably because 9.5mm sound was doing so well. The 17.5mm film library was sold off and 17.5mm was no more...
Incidentally 17.5mm silent (and later sound) was used in France by Pathé in many of
their country cinemas, using the "The Rural" ("Rex" in the UK) projector.
The gauge was banned in 1941 by the German occupying forces.
